THE POSITION
The Principal of the Claypit Hill School ...
1) Is responsible for the leadership and day-to-day management of the educational program for 525 students in K through 5th
grade. The Principal uses leadership, supervisory, and administrative
skills to promote and advance the educational development of each
student while creating and sustaining a positive learning environment
involving faculty, staff, students, parents, and community;
2) Directs
all organization, supervision, and administration within the school, establishing and maintaining an effective learning climate in
the school. She or he hires new staff members as needed, orients them,
and assists in their development as employees of the Wayland School
System;
3) Leads
in the development, implementation, and monitoring of the instructional
program, assists in the
revision and evaluation of curriculum; oversees the school budget.
QUALIFICATIONS
Desired characteristics, abilities, and strengths include:
- Master's degree with advanced graduate study in educational administration required;
- Doctoral degree in educational administration preferred;
- Teaching experience at the Elementary level (Grades K to 5);
- Licensed in Massachusetts as an Elementary Principal;
- Evidence of successful administrative experience;
- Demonstrated ability in areas of curriculum, staff supervision, special education, technology, diversity;
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
- A sense of humor, a flare for creative problem solving, the ability to persevere, and an appreciation for group dynamics.
2014-2015 DISTRICT GOALS
HEALTH:
To enhance health and wellness education, with an emphasis on healthy relationships and violence prevention, employing a systemic approach
to curriculum, instruction, extracurricular activities, and school
culture.
EVALUATION: To successfully, and fully, implement the new state-mandated Educator Evaluation Framework.
ACHIEVEMENT GAP: To narrow the achievement gap through the use of culturally proficient teaching strategies, data-based analyses and, in general, by building on strategies that work.
RESPONSE TO INTERVENTION (RTI): To
expand and more fully realize a system-wide RTI program in a teaching and learning
environment that integrates teacher collaboration, sharing of best
practices, differentiated instruction, and the use of data to inform
instruction.
TECHNOLOGY: To
increasingly employ instructional technology for the purpose of
improving student proficiency with core content knowledge and skills,
while building technology-related competencies - and to do so in conjunction with developing a comprehensive approach to science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics education.
THE WAYLAND COMMUNITY
The
Town of Wayland is located 18 miles west of Boston near the
Massachusetts Turnpike and outside of the Route 128 circle. Many
residents of the town are employed in technical, professional, and
managerial positions and are associated with institutions and
businesses outside of Wayland.
