Information for Substitute Teachers
Substitute Teacher Application (pdf)
Substitute Teacher Pay Schedule (pdf)
Dear Substitute Teacher Applicants:
Our need for flexible, dedicated substitute teachers is critical.
Please click on the substitute teacher application (above), complete it,
and attach your resume. We suggest you also attach letters of
recommendation, transcripts, and any other materials that you feel would
support your inclusion on our substitute teacher list. You will need
to stop by the Central Office to complete the CORI request form (see
below); please bring the completed application and other materials with
you.
Who, Where, and How?
We provide per diem substitute teachers at
four schools: Claypit Hill School, (Grades 1-5); Happy Hollow School
(Grades 1-5); Loker School (Kindergarten); and Wayland Middle School
(Grades 6-8). School principals (or their designees) do the calling.
If a teacher is going to be out for five days or more, temporary
teachers will be provided in all schools including the High School.
Substitute teachers will be called in advance, if possible; however,
they may also receive calls early in the morning if a teacher is going
to be out that day or in the evening for the next day. In some cases,
substitutes are also provided for teacher assistants who work with
special needs students.
CORI Check
State law requires schools to run
a Criminal Offense Record Information (CORI) check on
everyone who has contact with students. Employment
of any kind – salaried, hourly, or per diem – is contingent
upon
favorable review of your CORI report. We are also required
to see you in person to view a government-issued photo ID
(such as a driver’s license or passport) and attach a copy
to the CORI form before submission to the Criminal History Systems
Board. Please stop off at the School
Department Central Office (in the Wayland Town Building at
41 Cochituate Road; open 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday)
to complete
your CORI request form and show your ID. You do not need an
appointment, but it
is advised that you call first. The Personnel Office is open
from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Your name
cannot be added to
our list until this requirement is met. If you have specific
questions
about this statute, please call Linda Lavenda at (508)
358-3773.
We look forward
to hearing from you!
