Beehive Art Comes to Loker
4 Friday Classes - May 17, 24, 31, June 7, 2013

Build, paint, print & sculpt using all kinds of fun techniques and vibrant materials.


Kim Poler of Beehive Art is bringing her innovative program to Loker School kindergarteners. Kim is a sculpture graduate of The School of Fine Arts of Boston University and a teacher who has shared her passion for art with children through many venues. She is a familiar face at First Night in Boston, where children explore art at her hands-on art station.

New Chinese Language Class for Adults

Coco Zhou, who brought Chinese Language and Culture classes to Wayland's public schools, is leading the effort to offer a beginner level class for adults. You will learn how to communicate in Chinese on common topics. You will learn about many important and practical aspects of Chinese culture - traditions, customs and values. The class introduces basic elements of the Chinese language, the Chinese pronunciation system using the English alphabet, and basic Chinese characters.

When traveling in China, you'll be able to ask prices, order food, or engage in conversation in Chinese. Is your child learning Chinese? You'll be able to converse with him or her. Finally, you will be able to connect with other adults who share an interest in Chinese Language and Culture.

Little Local Vocals

Chorus Director:  Ms. Patrice Buckley
A musician with outstanding credentials  Formerly on staff with Loker and Claypit Hill Schools as a music teacher, Patrice is a graduate of the Music Education program at Boston University.  At BU, Patrice studied voice and was part of the Concert Chorus and Symphonic Chorus. She was the President  and Musical Director of the award-winning a cappella group, the Allegrettos. She is a distinguished pianist and organist as well. Her recent experience includes teaching general music classes to elementary students in kindergarten through fifth grade at both the Claypit Hill School and the Loker School. Patrice is looking forward to seeing familiar faces and meeting new students through Wayland's Little Local Vocals Kids Chorus.

PRIVATE MUSIC LESSON PROGRAM NOW REGISTERING


A private music lesson program is operated by the Wayland Public Schools and overseen by Wayland School Community Programs,  Community Education.

PRIVATE MUSIC LESSON STUDENTS.  The program is for students participating in the Wayland Public School system's Music Program. This includes:

Orchestra Members, Grades 3 -12
Band Members, Grades 4 - 12
Chorus Members, Grades 6-12

LESSON LOCATIONS.  Lessons are held at Loker, Claypit Hill, Wayland Middle and Wayland High School.

LENGTH OF LESSONS. Session may be 30, 45, or 60 minutes long.

INSTRUCTORS.  Teachers are highly experienced, seasoned performers and educators.

PROGRAM COORDINATION.  Bernadette Vanaria, general music teacher, Claypit Hill School, is the Program Coordinator. She ensures that lesson content is consistent with the musical standards, goals, and objectives of the Wayland Public Schools.

FEES: 
First semester total includes $50 registration fee.

Robotics Rockin' Robitics
 
Target Group: Students in Grades 3-5
Location: Claypit Hill School
Dates: Mondays for eight weeks
Dates: Mondays, January 28, February 4,11,25 March 11,18,25 and April 1 (Grade 3-4)
Time: 3:10 pm- 4:30 pm
Fee: $170 for eight weeks

Dates: Fridays for ten weeks
Dates: Friday, January 25 - Friday, April 12 with the exception of February 22, Winter Break (Grades 4 & 5)
Time: 3:10 pm- 4:30 pm
Fee: $210 for ten weeks
Instructor: Dale Bentley (Experienced and Trained Robotics Instructor)

Students enrolled in Rockin' Robotics will be using WeDo, RCX, NXT Lego Mindstorm Technology to construct an actual working robot!

Rockin' Robotics Program Highlights Include:

* Learning the basics and applications of modern robotics technology as  well
as the unique opportunity to build and model a robot.
* Using the "flowchart approach" to discover the fundamentals of software
programming which will be downloaded to the robot.
* Utilizing robotics software to program the robot to perform specificcommands.
* Culmination of course to include a demonstration or a display of the
finished robot product!
* The fee for this program will include the cost of the necessary materials.

If your child is interested in joining Rockin' Robotics, please fill out the registration form and send along a check for $170 for the Monday group or $210 for the Friday group to hold your child's spot in this dynamic program! More information will follow for those who want to join.
