2005-12-10: status of FY07 budget process
The Wayland School Committee plans to spend December and January working with the administration to recommend a school budget for the 2006-2007 school year (FY07). Subscribers to the committee's newsletter may be interested in the following items of note.

1. Superintendent Gary Burton plans to present his recommendation for the FY07 school budget to the School Committee on Monday, January 9, in the committee's meeting room on the second floor of the Town Building beginning at 7:30pm. A summary of the committee's guidance to the Superintendent is available on the committee's web site at www.waylandschoolcommittee.org in the orange "What's New" box.

2. As an addition to the standard process, the Finance Committee asked all town committees to prepare an "override avoidance" FY07 budget plan that would remove 8% from the amount required to provide level services in FY07. Details of the School Committee's response are also available in the "What's New" box; those interested might begin with the narrative.

3. On Thursday, December 15th, at 7:00pm in the Town Building's large hearing room, the Finance Committee will hold an IMPORTANT informational meeting to discuss the following: their role and responsibilities, the budget process, and significant expense and income challenges in fiscal 2007. A question and answer period will follow.
