2006-01-10: Jan 18 State House rally - Chapter 70 education aid
On January 18, 2006, from 11:00am to 1:00pm in the Great Hall at the State House in Boston, parents and community members from across the Commonwealth will lobby to increase Chapter 70 education funding, which has been stagnant for the past five or so years.

Affluence in Wayland and other suburban communities must not be misunderstood as universal affluence. Factors including rising health, pension, and energy costs, coupled with the state's failure to provide appropriate education funding, undermines our ability to adequately fund our high quality public school system. The regressive nature of real estate taxes as the means by which we fund local services limits our options for dealing with these financial pressures.

Simply put, too many area residents find themselves in a difficult bind: real estate tax increases present near-term affordability challenges, yet failing to sufficiently fund municipal services threatens not only quality of life but also the value of the real estate itself.

Please join us in imploring the Legislature and the Governor to restore Chapter 70 education aid to levels appropriate for 2006 and beyond.
