What is ELL and ESL?

ELL stands for English Language Learner.  All students enrolled in an English educational system whose first language is not English is an English Language Learner


ESL stands for English as a Second Language.  ESL is an educational program designed for students whose first language is not English.  This program teaches ELL students through direct English instruction based on grade level curriculum and Massachusetts state mandated standards.
