DESCRIPTION:  
Andy Wang, a Wayland High School student, is teaching two computer science courses during April Vacation Week. He successfully ran a course last summer, and is building on that experience. The courses are free, and are offered through Wayland School Community Programs, Community Education. All information - including the registration form - is available at:

Introduction to Computer Science and Game Creation

Wayland Summer Strings
for
Entering Grades 6 - 9*
DESCRIPTION: This is the fifth summer this program will be offered, and each year it is fully enrolled. Ms. Tandon describes Summer Strings as "a week of chamber music and fun." Daily activities include guided small ensemble rehearsals, musical games and activities, and preparation of a large ensemble piece. The goal is for young musicians to have a great time making music together. On Friday, there is an ensemble performance, and families and friends are invited.

Stem is Fun for Kids, Grades K - 2

DESCRIPTION:  STEM classes introduce different concepts each week as children explore Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math through hands-on, creative exploration. Families receive a descriptive newsletter after each class, detailing concepts covered, activities, and the name of the book read as part of each class.

Beaver Engineering - Can you build a dam with rocks, sticks, moss, Legos, clay, and sand? That was the STEM challenge Loker children took on as they attempted to hold back the flow of water from breaching their dams. It took teamwork, much discussing and theorizing, but after three or four re-designs, the teams of "engineers" achieved success.

Beehive Art Studio of Wayland brings its creative workshop to Loker School for an after-school art opportunity. Children explore with a wide range of colorful mediums and techniques. They explore book and printmaking, construct sculptures and mobiles, design spin art, and make miniatures and toys.

LOCATION:  Little Theatre at Loker School  - also offered at Claypit Hill and Happy Hollow Schools

TIME:  Wednesdays, 2:05 pm  - 3 pm (Loker students come to theatre upon dismissal)  Travel time is built in for students coming from other schools.
Students from all three elementary schools may choose the school/day that fits their schedules. There will be a joint concert (with joint rehearsals) at the end of each session.

This long-established program (1992)  opens up the world of global languages through hands-on, exciting activities that expose young learners to the language and culture of other parts of the world.
