Want to save on tuition? Be a parent volunteer at all six sessions of great STEM fun!

DESCRIPTION:   Through STEM activities, children learn something new each week as they explore STEM concepts through play. Children will think, construct, experiment, discover and develop the desire to learn more.

Yoga for Children Grades K - 2    (closed)

GRADES:  Kindergarten through Grade 

DATES:  January 17 - March 14, 2017 

TIME:  Tuesdays, 3 pm - 4 pm 

DESCRIPTION:  Children learn yoga poses, build confidence, and have fun. Techniques used include calm breathing, stories, movement, tgeam-building, mindful moments and games.

WEDNESDAY


             Beehive Art Mixed Media Workshop

GRADES:  Kindergarten through Grade 3

LOCATION: 
 Art Room at Loker School

DESCRIPTION:  Beehive Art Studio of Wayland brings its creative workshop to Loker School for an after-school art opportunity. Children explore with a wide range of colorful mediums and techniques.

Upon completion of the debut workshop at the middle school in the fall of 2016, Mark Altman asked the students:

 "What's the biggest thing you've learned from being in this workshop?"

Here are three of the answers:

"I learned how to speak."
"I learned about making eye contact."
" I learned how to speak so people will listen to me."


DESCRIPTION:  Now Grade 5 students from all three elementary schools can try out this new program being offered at the Wayland Middle School. It successfully debuted in the fall of 2016 for middle school students. 
You will gain confidence, get to explore a topic you really care about, and discover how it feels to be the star of your own show.
DATES:  Wednesdays, January 11, 18, 25 and February 1, 2017

LOCATION: 
 Little Theatre at Loker School
TIME:  Wednesdays, 2 pm - 3 pm (Loker students come to theatre upon dismissal)  Travel time is built in for students coming from Happy Hollow or Claypit Hill - 2:15 pm actual start time

Students from all three elementary schools may attend the Loker or Claypit Hill program - there will be a joint concert (with joint rehearsals) at the end of each session.

              Kindergarten through Grade Five

Learning another language is one of the best ways to become part of the global community. Studying a language at a young age is advantageous since children are most receptive to acquiring a new language when young.
This long-established program (1992)  opens up the world of global languages through hands-on, exciting activities that expose young learners to the language and culture of other parts of the world.

STEM classes debuted in Wayland schools in the fall of 2015 to great success. STEM classes offer fun-filled and exciting programs focused on building and sustaining interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. The goal is to introduce these concepts at an early age through enjoyable and fun activities that incorporate STEM concepts into play or everyday activities.  Children explore with LEGO Bricks, Kapla blocks, K'nex education sets, Snap Circuits, and other STEM toys. The key notion is that children learn best when they are having fun.

      Grade Five Photography Club with Mr. Gees
This class received an overwhelming response, and Mr. Gees is contacting those families with a child interested in enrolling.

DESCRIPTION:  No experience needed for this Club, and digital cameras are provided. Learn how to compose a picture, have proper light, and even edit with  I-Photo on the computer. You'll be published in the Wayland Town Crier and be part of an exhibit at the Wayland Town Library.
WHEN:  Thursdays, January 5 - February 16, 2016, from 3 - 4:30 pm
Actual Dates for the five classes are:  January 5, 12, 19, and 26, and February 16, 2017
FEE: $125 (includes camera for home and school use)

DESCRIPTION: 
 STEM classes offer fun-filled and exciting programs focused on building and sustaining interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. The goal is to introduce these concepts at an early age through enjoyable and fun activities that incorporate STEM concepts into play or everyday activities.  Children explore with LEGO Bricks, Kapla blocks, K'nex education sets, Snap Circuits, and other STEM toys. The key notion is that children learn best when they are having fun.
