WAYLAND METCO PROGRAM

------------------------------------------
The Metropolitan Council For Educational Opportunity (METCO) was founded in 1966. It is a state funded, voluntary educational desegregation program designed to eliminate racial imbalance through the busing of children from Boston, MA and Springfield, MA to suburban public schools in the 38 communities where the program operates. Wayland joined METCO in 1968. Approximately 135 Boston resident students attend Wayland Public Schools in grades K through 12 through the METCO Program.
*11/30/22 - Wayland School Committee votes to expand the Wayland METCO Program to admit PreK students as proposed by Wayland METCO Director and Superintendent following the DESE certification of The Children's Way Preschool in Wayland. METCO Director, TCW Director and Superintendent are working on plan for the expansion and hope to enroll Wayland's fist METCO Preschool students in the fall of 2023. **UPDATE 8/1/23- Due to Level Funding of METCO Budget Wayland METCO Grant was not increased and we were not able to expand our program as planned.

*Mission-Our mission is to provide students with educational opportunities designed to enrich their academic, personal and interpersonal experiences.  It is our belief that the METCO experience should provide a strong academic foundation, as well as an environment rich in cultural, educational, ethnic and racial diversity. We are all METCO students and METCO families in a METCO town.
