Volleyball instructor Pam Kainz returns to Happy Hollow in April to lead Volleyball Skills, Drills, and Fun  for Grades 4 and 5 on Mondays after school.

The group pictured below has moved on from Happy Hollow's volleyball program, but new opportunities to be on a team are available at both Wayland Middle School and Wayland High School.

Wayland Summer Strings - Whitney Tandon, Wayland's strings director for Grades 4 - 8, began this program in the summer of 2014. This year's program will begin registering this spring with a June 3 deadline for the form; payment of $150 should be sent July 1 or later.

Dates are: July 29 - August 2 and the time is 12:30 pm - 3:30 pm.

Grade Levels: Entering Grades 6 - 9; entering Grade 5, depending on experience

Beehive Art Classes - In 2019, Beehive Art is marking its sixth year as part of Wayland School Community Programs, Community Education. Along with after-school classes, Beehive Art Owner Kim Poler shares her enthusiasm for vibrant, colorful art with children attending the BASE vacation week programs.

The Young Naturalist   Grades 1 - 2
Evi Treffs, longtime educator at Loker School and recently retired, has developed this new series of workshops. 
Monday, March 18 through April 29 are the dates and the time is 3:15 pm - 4:25 pm at Loker School. The fee is $120.

According to Ms.Treffs, children will detect, observe, and experiment in the natural world around them. They may dissect owl pellets, create a terrarium, or study how ants do their work. All of these activities will help children strengthen their ability to focus their gaze and to make assessments and connections based on their observations and study.

For twelve years, Chinese Language & Culture has been offered to Wayland students. The program is designed for students whose primary language is English. Children are placed in classes based on their skill level. Children gain listening and speaking skills in Chinese through songs, rhymes and poems, role-playing, games, and other fun activities.

The company - KidPowerment - has designed a program that helps young children explore yoga "by combining traditional yoga practice with mindful moments. KidPowerment students become familiar with the yoga tools that strengthen their bodies and calm their minds."  The goal includes giving practitioners the ability to transfer the benefits out of the class and into their lives.

Beehive Art Studio of Wayland brings its creative workshop to Loker School for an after-school art opportunity. Children explore with a wide range of colorful mediums and techniques. They explore book and printmaking, construct sculptures and mobiles, design spin art, and make miniatures and toys.  The fee is $220 per session, and the instructor is Kim Poler, owner.

Volleyball Skills, Drills, and Fun!

Instructor Pam Kainz, a former Happy Hollow parent and experienced volleyball player and coach,  brings her program to Happy Hollow each spring. Geared for Grades 4 and 5 students, Volleyball Skills, Drills, and Fun! is a great introduction to the fundamental skills of volleyball. In 2019, it will be a five-week course offered on Mondays.  Opportunities to play volleyball are now part of Wayland Middle School and Wayland High School's athletic programs.

Little Local Vocals Children's Chorus

Participation Soars at Happy Hollow in Fall 2018

Just started at Happy Hollow last year, the program now enrolls more than 30 young vocalists. Little Local Vocals is #HappyHollowStrong!


Led by Patrice Buckley, Little Local Vocals has been a highly successful program in Wayland and has more than doubled its enrollment since its 2014 founding. 

Rehearsals are now offered in all three elementary schools, allowing students/families to choose the school/day that fits their schedules. There will be a joint concert (with combined final rehearsal) at the end of each session.

The key notion is that children learn best when they are having fun.
