From Our Superintendent

Our district will be holding three sessions as part of our Portrait(s) of a Learner process, which is described in the message below. The sessions will be facilitated by the same highly skilled facilitators from MLP Integrated Design that we used for our facilities planning work and we would love more Happy Hollow caregivers to be included in this work!

Parent and Caregiver Focus Group
Thursday, January 22nd, 7:00 pm Virtual

Parents and caregivers will share insights about student growth, challenges, and the experiences that matter most across K-12. We’ll explore what skills and mindsets students need today and what supports truly make a difference. This feedback will guide the development of Portrait(s) traits and learner profiles. If you are interested please fill out this Google Form.

Additionally, caregivers have the opportunity to participate in the Big Group Visioning Series (Educational Forum)

The three-part series will bring together educators, parents and community members to co-create Wayland’s Portrait(s) of a Learner. Below is a calendar of the process/meetings.

Session 1: Monday, February 9, 4:00-6:00 pm
Identify 4-6 core draft traits based on a series of focus groups with students, recent graduates, and parents/caregivers

Session 2: Monday, March 9, 4:00-6:00
Build narrative learner archetypes that reflect the range of Wayland learners

Session 3: Monday, March 30th- 4:00-5:00
Revise and finalize the Portrait(s) as we prepare to launch.

Participants are required to attend all three sessions as each session builds on the previous one. Please click on the button below to fill out the Google Form here if you are interested in participating.

Conversations, Not Confrontations Information and Registration

When: 7-8:30 pm, February 10, March 10, April 14, and May 12, 2026

Where: First Parish, 225 Boston Post Road, Wayland – in person only

Who:  For parents and other adults who live, work, worship or send their child(ren) to school in Wayland – from people who speak their minds often, to those who hold back, and everyone in between.

Facilitator: jamele adams

Registration: Registration is required. Attendance at all four sessions is encouraged but not required.  REGISTER

About: This four-session workshop is all about building skills for real-life and online conversations—especially with people whose life experiences differ from your own. Together, we’ll practice how to show up with curiosity and self-awareness, even when conversations feel uncomfortable or perspectives don’t align.

jamele adams, an educator, facilitator, and community peacemaker, will lead four in-person sessions where participants can practice empathetic listening, learn from one another, and build trust and connection. Together, participants will choose the discussion topic for each session.

By the end, you’ll have concrete tools to engage across differences—face-to-face and online. You’ll leave better equipped to navigate difficult conversations without losing connection. No matter who you are or where you’re coming from, this workshop is a welcoming space to learn, reflect, and grow together—and to help make the Wayland  community stronger.

This program is sponsored by the Wayland Public Schools and the Wayland Human Rights, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee (HRDEIC). The program is made possible through the generous support of the Lydia Maria Child Fund of First Parish in Wayland.
